Buzz-worthy drama on the red carpet!
Austin Butler and Pedro Pascal leapt into action to defend co-star Emma Stone from an unexpected red carpet crasher—a bee—during the premiere of their film Eddington at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
The three stars, joined by director Ari Aster, were posing for photos at the Palais des Festivals on Friday when Stone noticed something buzzing nearby. Videos from the scene show Pascal trying to swat the insect away before Stone asked, “Is that a bee?” Butler then attempted to blow it away—unfortunately sending it closer to Stone instead.

Stone ducked dramatically in response, prompting laughter from Pascal, who playfully shielded her with his hand. Butler also stepped in with some hand-waving of his own. Thankfully, the bee eventually flew off, and the trio carried on—buzz-free.
Internet Takes Flight
Naturally, the internet quickly turned the moment into meme gold. Fans edited the footage into slow-motion hero scenes and comedy clips. One viral tweet joked, “The memes that’ll come from Emma Stone dodging a bee at Cannes? Already iconic—and they haven’t even been made yet.”

About Eddington
The incident took place ahead of the world premiere of Eddington, Aster’s new horror-western set during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic. The film centers on a power struggle between a sheriff (Joaquin Phoenix) and a small-town mayor (Pascal) in Eddington, New Mexico.
The cast also includes Angelina Jolie, Jeremy Strong, Julia Garner, Luke Grimes, and Clifton Collins Jr., though they seemingly missed the bee spectacle.
Eddington hits theaters July 18 via A24. The Cannes Film Festival runs through May 24.
