Jelly Roll Brings Out Eminem in Surprise ‘Lose Yourself’ Duet: “A Childhood Dream Come F—ing True”

Detroit lost its mind Sunday night when Jelly Roll brought out the Motor City’s own Eminem for a surprise duet of “Lose Yourself” at Ford Field — and the crowd absolutely exploded.

Jelly Roll kicked off the 2002 anthem solo, but as the final verse loomed, none other than Marshall Mathers himself strode onto the stage to deafening screams, helping close out the song with signature fury.

After the performance, Eminem gave props where they were due: “Detroit, what up?! Long time no see. One more time, make some noise for Jelly Roll!”

Jelly Roll was visibly emotional afterward, telling the crowd: “That was a childhood dream come f—ing true, Detroit. This is the greatest show I’ve ever had in my f—ing life.” He added that Eminem’s music had helped him survive his darkest days.

It’s not the first time the two artists have joined forces. Last year, Eminem sampled Jelly Roll’s 2020 track “Save Me” on his album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) — and they shared a stage during “Live from Detroit: The Concert at Michigan Central.”

Jelly Roll has long called Eminem a hero: “I could recite every song. When I bonded out of jail at 17 and was sneaking into freestyle battles, they played the ‘Lose Yourself’ beat when I came out.” He added, “I related to every word Eminem wrote. I felt like he understood me when nobody else did.”

He also gave a special thank-you to Eminem’s longtime manager, Paul Rosenberg: “You treated me like family and gave me opportunities I didn’t deserve. Forever grateful.”

The performance was part of Post Malone’s Big Ass Stadium Tour, which kicked off in Salt Lake City last month and features Jelly Roll and Sierra Ferrell as supporting acts. The tour wraps this September in Lisbon.
