It turns out Jennifer Lawrence might not be the best hostess — but she’s definitely the funniest. The Hunger Games star recently revealed a bizarre (and hilarious) story about feeding her Die, My Love co-star Robert Pattinson food straight from her garbage can — without him realizing.
Appearing on The Graham Norton Show on Friday, Lawrence recalled the unforgettable evening when Pattinson stopped by her house after wrapping a project nearby.
“I had my girlfriends over. We were in our pajamas watching Little Women. It was December,” Lawrence said, setting the cozy scene. “Then Rob texted me and said, ‘Hey, I just wrapped something like a block away from you.’ I was like, ‘Oh my God, come over!’”

The Oscar winner described Pattinson as both a friend and someone who brings out her “maternal side.” “He’s one of the girls,” she joked. “He wants to gossip. But he’s also like my daughter — he’s a great father, he’s professional, but I wouldn’t trust that he remembered to wear a coat.”
When Pattinson arrived, he immediately asked if she had anything to eat. “He comes in, I give him a hug, and he’s like, ‘You have any food? I’m so hungry,’” Lawrence recalled. “And I was like, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah — come in!’”
There was just one small problem: her fridge was empty.
“I did have food,” she explained, “but it was in the trash.”
So, while Pattinson ducked into the bathroom, Lawrence made a split-second decision that would soon become Hollywood legend. “I started pulling food out of my garbage can,” she admitted with a laugh. “My friends were watching me like I was insane.”

When Pattinson came back, completely unaware, he started eating. “He eats it, and we’re all just sitting there watching him,” Lawrence said. “And when he finished, he goes, ‘I’m still hungry — is there more?’”
Lawrence confessed that she told him there was more food — but it was also in the trash. “He said, ‘Oh, I don’t mind,’ and just kept eating it,” she said.
A Friendship With No Waste — Literally
The story left both the audience and host Graham Norton in stitches, proving that few actors can tell a self-deprecating story like Jennifer Lawrence.
The two stars recently shared the screen in Die, My Love, directed by Lynne Ramsay (We Need to Talk About Kevin). The intense psychological drama, which follows a couple’s crumbling marriage, premiered to strong reviews at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival and hits theaters November 7.
Even though their on-screen relationship in Die, My Love is far from comedic, their off-screen friendship clearly has plenty of laughs — and, apparently, no food waste.
