Ray J has filed a new countersuit against Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner, escalating the long-running legal battle surrounding their infamous 2007 sex tape. The singer claims the mother–daughter duo breached a prior legal agreement and conspired behind the scenes to orchestrate the tape’s release.
The filing comes weeks after Kardashian and Jenner sued Ray J for defamation, citing his remarks in interviews and livestreams. Ray J’s response, however, accuses the two reality stars of violating a settlement that was intended to permanently end public discussions of the tape.

Ray J Claims a Previous Settlement Was Broken
According to the cross-complaint obtained by EW, Ray J — born William Ray Norwood Jr. — argues that he and the Kardashians reached a confidential agreement in 2023 after mediation. He says Kardashian agreed to pay him $6 million and that both sides committed to:
- No further public references to the sex tape
- No disparagement of one another
- A complete settlement of all current and future disputes
Ray J alleges that Kardashian and Jenner violated the deal when season 3 of The Kardashians aired episodes featuring new references to the sex tape. He claims the pair insisted the agreement didn’t apply because filming occurred earlier — and that they attempted to pressure him into signing a contract amendment, which he refused.

Kardashian Legal Team Fires Back
Alex Spiro, attorney for Kardashian and Jenner, dismissed Ray J’s filing as meritless.
“After realizing he is losing the case and losing his way, this disjointed rambling distraction is not intimidating anyone,” Spiro said. “Ray J will lose this frivolous case too.”
Ray J’s representatives declined to comment.
Allegations of a Coordinated Sex Tape Release
The countersuit revisits one of the most controversial claims Ray J has made in recent years: that Kris Jenner and Kim Kardashian coordinated the sex tape’s original distribution with Vivid Entertainment in 2007.
The filing alleges that Jenner arranged for both Kardashian and Ray J to sign contracts with Vivid, that Kardashian later filed a “bogus lawsuit” against the company to generate publicity, and that public statements claiming she never consented to distribution were “lies.”
Kardashian and Jenner have repeatedly denied orchestrating the tape’s release. In 2022, Jenner even took a lie detector test on The Late Late Show saying she was not involved.
Ray J Cites RICO Parallels in New Filing
Ray J’s complaint also references the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, suggesting he saw structural similarities between the Kardashians’ alleged actions and a coordinated conspiracy.
The filing states he considered filing a civil RICO lawsuit of his own.
What Ray J Is Seeking
Ray J is requesting:
- At least $1 million in damages
- A judicial declaration that releases him from Kardashian and Jenner’s defamation claims
As both sides trade escalating allegations, the legal fight over one of pop culture’s most infamous moments continues to resurface nearly two decades later.
